Help Fill Backpacks for Back to School

Published July 6, 2011 @ 3:59 p.m.

It may seem as though summer just began, but it is only 6 weeks before school starts.  It is not too early to begin filling backpacks for children from low income and/or needy families.  South Plains Community Action is again planning their Back-To-School Project, which consists of filling donated backpacks with school supplies for the upcoming school year for students who may not otherwise begin the new year with all of the tools they need.

Donations of school supplies are needed. Items requested are: pencils, pencils sharpener,        notebook paper, map colors, colored pens, spiral notebooks, pocket folders, erasers, glue, school boxes, scissors, rulers, markers and water colors.

American State Bank in Lubbock has again graciously donated many backpacks, and all that is needed are the supplies to fill them.

Please drop your donations of supplies off with Diana M. Jones at South Plains Community Action, South Highway 84 or with Pixie Grisham at the First United Methodist Church, 216 W. 10th in Post.

We thank you in advance for your assistance and partnership with this project. Donations should be received by August 8th so all backpacks can be filled and ready to distribute in time for the new school year.
