Annual Memorial Day Events Planned

Following an annual Memorial Day tradition, VFW Post 6797 and the Ladies Auxiliary have planned local events to pay tribute to veterans of the U. S. Armed Services.

Members of Post 6797 along with local Girl Scouts will place U. S. flags on the graves of veterans in Terrace Cemetery Saturday, May 26, beginning at 10 a.m.  Anyone wishing to assist is welcome.

Memorial Day, May 28 the VFW Post will host a Memorial Day breakfast at the VFW Hall, serving from 7 to 9 a.m.

The Annual Memorial Day Service will be held on the Courthouse lawn at 10 a.m.  Eagle Scouts will post the Colors, and the guest speaker will be the Honorable District Judge William C. (Bill) Sowder of the 99th District Court in Lubbock.  Judge Sowder also serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Judge Advocate Corps.

At 3 p.m., the VFW Post 6797 Ladies Auxiliary will honor the veterans who reside at Golden Plains Care Center.  The public is also invited to this event.
