Lady Lopes Win 2 In-a-Row

Girls Basketball Round-up

Published Nov. 20, 2012 @ 5:57 p.m.

The Varsity Lady Lopes picked up their first preseason win of the year despite questionable officiating in Abernathy last Friday, 53-52.   Then the L-Lopes enjoyed their second win Monday night at Ralls, 61-48.

A point was incorrectly given to Abernathy by the scorer’s table even though officials acknowledged the mistake.  An Abernathy player’s field goal was counted after being fouled and then given two free throws instead of one, making both.

All Lady Lope fans were on their feet during the last quarter as fouls were being traded and tempers were flaring.  Our Post Lady Lopes eventually would emerge victorious after another second was added at the end of the fourth quarter and Abernathy would be given the ball out of bounds.  With time expired, a foul was called on Junior, Mattie Smith with the score at 53-51.  The foul was called while an Abernathy player was shooting a last second three pointer.  She was given three free throws, but only sank one, ending the game with Post 53, Abernathy 52.  Junior Taylor Osborn scored 19 and senior Haily Berry contributed 17.

At Ralls on Monday, Post's great defense and hustle proved too much for Ralls as our ladies dominated most of the game.  The Lady Lope offense looked strong as fast breaks and quick rotation contributed to a high point total.  Three Lady Lopes were in double figures.  Juniors Taylor Osborn and Mattie Smith had 18 and 12 points respectively and Senior Haily Berry had a solid 15 points.

Junior Varsity Reports

RALLS JV 37, POST 32 (11/19/12)
The Post JV Lady Lopes showed great improvement Monday night against a quick Ralls JV team.  At one point our ladies were down by 27 points, but came back with their usual “don’t quit” attitude and this time it almost paid off losing by only five.  Junior, Sarah Stinson had 10 and Sophomore, Kelsey Griffin had 7 points.

Abernathy JV 46, Post JV 8  (11/16/12)
Poor shooting once again hurt the sub-varsity Lady Lopes as they only scored 8 points in their devastating loss to the Abernathy Lady Lope Junior Varsity.  The Abernathy defense was tough, but even against a more dominant team, the Post JV ladies never gave up and played hard until the last buzzer sounded.
Score by quarters:
Team           1st    2nd    3rd    4th    Final
Post             2       5       0         1  -     8
Abernathy    21      9       5        11 -    46

LCHS JV 43, Post JV 22 (11/13/12)
The Junior Varsity shot less than 15 percent from the field in their loss to a strong Lubbock Christian squad.  The girls got into foul trouble early putting LC’s JV on the line early in the first half. Chelby Morris and Brogan Macy had 7 points each.
Team        1st     2nd    3rd     4th     Final
