County Commissioners Lower Tax Rate, Adopt New Budget

Published Oct. 8, 2012 @ 10:52 p.m.

A brief special meeting of the Commisioners' Court of Garza County was held on Friday September 21, 2012.  The meeting concluded recent county budget activity, with the budget being approved and a related decrease in the tax rate approved as well.

The first order of business was the motion to adopt a balanced budget of $7,864,464.00.  This budget is for the 2012-2013 fiscal year and it was passed unanimously.

Then the court adopted the Garza County 2011-2012 tax rate.  Another unanimous vote supported the adoption of a new rate of .355 cents per $100 valuation.  This rate is a decrease from the prior year's rate of .37809.  The new rate is expected to generate $3,442,428 in ad valorem tax revenue.  Approximately $2,926,063 of that revenue will be allocated to the general fund and the remaining $516,365 is to be split proportionately among the county precincts.

The complete adopted budget can be obtained at the Garza County website.

The meeting lasted three minutes, with the county Judge, three of four commissioners, and miscellaneous officials in attendance.
