Lady Osborn Ups Point Average

BORDEN COUNTY -  Both of Post's teams took part in the Borden County Varsity Basketball Tournament this past Thursday and Friday.

The Antelopes won three out of the four games and brought home the consolation trophy.

The Lopes opened up the BC Tourney with a win against O'Donnell, 65-58, then lost to Lubbock Christian High School, 72-31, on Thursday.  The Lopes replied on Friday with two wins Friday beating Wilson, 80-52 and in the consolation game pulling out a two point victory over Plains, 42-40.

Taylor Soto was the Lopes' leading scorer with a total of 49 followed by Dalton Holly's 45 while Jacob Perez and Tavish Soto scored 25 each over the four game tourney.

Post, now 6-5 on the season, have one more warm-up game Tuesday at Ralls before opening district 3-2A play on Friday at Denver City.

Post's Lady Lopes fell short of placing in the BC Tournament.  But, sophomore center Taylor Osborne led her team for the second consecutive tourney in two weeks averaging 19 points a game, a three point increase in her average over the previous series at Roby.  Her high game this week was 26 points against Borden County in a losing effort, 54-44, as she totaled 67 over the two days.

According to Head Coach Patricia Gurierrez the BC game was close until the final minute and a half when Post had to foul and "they (BC) hit their free throws and pulled further ahead."

The Lady Lopes found ways to get the ball inside to Osborn where she scored most of her points.  Gutierrez noted that Taylor also made her foul shots.

Post opened up the tourney defeating O'Donnell 54-40 then lost to Lorenzo 63-41.

The Lady Lopes received well rounded scoring from Haily Berry 22, Shirley Araiza 21, Matti Smith 16 and Skylar Jones 13.

Post resumes district play at home Tuesday against Coahoma and then Friday at Denver City.

Post Sports Radio will web cast both team's games Friday from Denver City.
