Support for the '2011 Christmas Bikes for Tots' program exceeded the expectations of the Post Lions Club. And because of that, many children in Garza County will receive an extra special gift this Christmas.
Post Elementary School children kindergarten through fifth grade enrolled for the chance to receive a bike or a trike depending on the child's age and size.
The Lions Club selected a predetermined number of boys and girls from the application pool to receive a new bicycle for Christmas.
The Lions Club was able to rally over $6000 for the program from organizations and individuals. At the Post Rotary Club's weekly meeting on Tuesday, December 6th, President Marie Neff presented Lions Club members Jason Porter and Denny Flaherty a check for $665 to help with the cost of the bikes. Lion's tail twister Porter informed The Garza Post that the Giles W. Dalby Correctional Facility pitched in "quite a few bikes" too. And according to a Post ISD official, the PHS National Honor Society donated $400.
Post Boys Scout Troop 316 and Garza County Community Supervisor Lupe Perez with community service workers have been assembling the gifts to be given away at an unannounced date before Christmas.
