Still Plenty of Youth Basketball Coming

Published Feb. 17, 2012 @ 7:37 a.m.

The Post Youth Athletic Group, or PYAG, under the leadership of Becky Justice and many motivated parent volunteers are fulfilling their mission of facilitating "quality sports experiences and character building programs to the youth of the Post community and beyond through operating fair, reliable, safe athletic programs focused on building self-esteem and accurately teaching sports fundamentals whilst remaining faithful to the virtues of equal opportunity for all children and loyal to the principles of good character" as stated on the PYAG web site.

The group is keeping the kids busy competing with teams from other towns like Ralls, O'Donnell, Southland and Tahoka.  This Friday evening (2/17) at the old high school gym, Post will host a basketball play day starting at 6:30 for the 5th and 6th grade boys teams from Southland and Tahoka.

According to Justice "since season play officially began on January 28th, Post has been able to host approximately 42 games at home."

"County Judge Lee Norman and Post Mayor Thressa Harp are scheduled to present the championship trophies at the upcoming tournament events," said Justice.  those events include: the LITTLE LOPE CLASSIC INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT for 3rd and 4th grade teams on March 2nd and 3rd; the POST CITY INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT for 5th and 6th graders on March 9th and 10th; and to close out the basketball season, the BRYNNE’S SMILES TOURNAMENT CLASSIC on april 13th and 14th with proceeds benefitting Brynne's Smiles and the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.  Towns expected to participate in the tournaments are Ralls, Lorenzo, Plains, Tahoka, O'Donnell, Denver City, Abernathy, Southland and Colorado City.

Justice extends "the warmest thanks to parent volunteers who have worked so hard to assist in making these events a success. Thanks also to Steve Smith, Athletic Director and Post ISD for supporting the growth of youth sports programs in Post."

The public is invited to attend and support these youth events coming to Post.  Enjoy!
