During an impressive ceremony recently, two Post Boy Scouts were honored for their achievement of the rank of Eagle Scout. Dalton Thuett and Fermin Rivera, Jr. of Boy Scout Troop 316 were recognized in an Eagle Scout Court of Honor, December 18, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Post.
Fermin is the son of Fermin and Lorie Rivera. Dalton's parents are Trevor and Jodie Thuett.
Richard Hudman, Committee Chairman for Troop 316; Trevor Thuett, Scoutmaster for Troop 316 and Denny Flaherty, Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 316 and Camp Ranger for Camp Post and Camp Tres Ritos as well as members of Scout Troop 316 participated in the ceremony.
Among the many requirements for the Eagle Rank is the planning, development and leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school or your community. The project must benefit an organization other than Boy Scouting.
Dalton's Eagle Scout project was the development of an exhibit at the Garza County Historical Museum paying tribute to Boy Scouts. Rivera stenciled curb addresses throughout the city of Post to ensure that resident addresses were clearly marked. This information is vital in the event of an emergency situation in the community.
These two young men now join an elite group of scouts including approximately 40 astronauts, the 38th President of the United States Gerald R. Ford, academy award-winning director Steven Spielberg, basketball hall of famer Bill Bradley, the mayor of NYC Michael Bloomberg and Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton.
