C-City vs. Post Results

Basketball Round-up

The Bold Gold Antelopes played the first place District 3-2A leaders down to the last second before dropping the contest 37-34.  The Colorado City Wolves, now 6-0 in district play, had trouble scoring against the Lopes pressure defense.  The Wolves were averaging 45 points a game in district games before meeting Post (0-6)  Tuesday at Antelope Arena.

The low scoring event was back and forth and with 3:15 on the second quarter clock when Tavish Soto popped a 3-pointer to give Post the lead 14-12.  But by the end of the first half, C-City led 20-16 with the help of a buzzer beater 3-point shot by Wolf Jason Rodriguez.  He ended the game with 11 points, eight-of-ten from the free throw line.

During a sloppy third quarter, Post was down 29-18 with less than two minutes.  The Lopes closed the gap by scoring five points while keeping C-City scoreless and Post trailed by seven, 29-22, at the end of the third.

In the fourth period, the Wolves tried to run down the clock by stalling and were successful until the 4:25 mark.  That's when junior point guard/wing Dalton Holly made a bucket and went on to score 8 of his team high 9 points in the final minutes of the game.  Post outscored the Wolves 10-4 during that period, but last second opportunities slipped away from the Antelopes.

Corbin McDonald chipped in 8 points and Tavish Soto added 5 for the Lopes.

In the ladies game, Post fought hard but were outsized by the Lady Wolves of Colorado City loosing the District 3-2A game 50-32.

With the Lady Lopes plagued with injuries, the young varsity team scrapped their way into contention a couple of times, but the more experienced Lady Wolves kept Post at arms length and improved their district record to 6-2.

Post was led by senior center Shirley Araiza's 10 points while sophomore Jaycee Johnson added 8 and junior Haily Berry knocked in 6 points.
