Garza County Burn Ban Lifted

Published March 29, 2012 @ 10:01 a.m.

Rainfall in Garza County is still not at optimum level; however, there has been enough moisture in recent weeks to allow the Commissioners’ Court to lift the burn ban in the county.  At the regular meeting March 26, during discussion to consider lifting the ban, Commissioner Morris said that Post Fire Chief Les Looney was in agreement with rescinding the order, but encourages that citizens should notify authorities of any planned burning.

The court also approved a letter of engagement with Joe F. Hays, CPA as an independent auditor for the annual audits of the Dalby Correctional Facility and the Dalby Correctional Facility-Trust Funds for the year ended December 31, 2011.  Estimated audit fees will be estimated fees are $6700 for the facility and $3100 for the trust fund.

The Commissioners approved a proclamation setting April 2012 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Garza County.

Minutes from the March 12, 2012 regular meeting were approved as presented and the following items of information were brought before the Court as a written report or for discussion: Treasurer; Budget Usage/Analysis; Senior Transportation; Victim Impact Statements; Garza Wildlife Damage Association.

Judge Norman explained that he received a letter from the Attorney General concerning the victims’ assistance program.  A grant for Garza County won’t be considered because the application was not submitted on a timely basis. The local program will end September 30, 2012.  The letter from the AG also stated that the program funds statewide will be substantially cut.

Precinct and countywide accounts payable for March 13, 2012 through March 26, 2012 were approved as presented.  There were no budget amendments or line item transfers.

The next Garza County Commissioners’ Court meeting is April 9, 9 a.m.
