The Post Lady Lopes are taking a break from district play by hosting seven other teams for the three day Caprock Classic softball tournament starting Thursday at David Nichols Park, weather permitting. The forecast is calling for a high in the 40's Thursday and Friday with a chance of precipitation.
The Lopes are coming off an impressive16-6 District 3-2A win over the Denver City Fillies on Tuesday. The team tallied 21 hits with all the starters having at least one hit apeice.
Senior Kari Dunn pitched well while she added two hits, drove in three runs and stole a base. Callie Odom got on base two times with hits including an inside the park home run, had five RBIs and scored twice. Head Coach Toby Allen explained that "Alexis Ramirez and Sara Greer crushed the ball, both just narrowly missing home runs". Then there was frosh Kelby Oden who for the first time hitting from the left side of the plate, was a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs batted in and had three stolen bases.
Post is now 6-5 on the season and 1-1 in district going into their home tournament. The Lady Lopes' first game is Friday at 2:30 p.m. against Floydada. If they win, they will play again at 5:30 and if they loose they'll play at 4:00 p.m. The other teams scheduled to play are Ralls, Westbrook, Tahoka, Hamlin, Levelland JV and Roby.
The opening game of the tourney is Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
Last weekend at the Ralls tournament, the Lady Lopes picked up one win in three tries. They beat Roosevelt, 18-14 in the second game of the event. Coach Allen was impressed with Kari Dunn saying she "pitched some outstanding games in this tournament and showed invaluable Senior leadership".
Post lost the first game to Lubbock Cooper JV, 7-6 and to Muleshoe in the last game, 13-8.
Top Lady Lope hitters in the Ralls tournament were: Bethany Curtis - 8 for 13 with 5 runs and 5 Stolen Bases; Sara Greer - 9 for 12 with 5 runs and 2 stolen bases; Kayla Comeaux - 6 for 11 with 4 runs and 3 stolen bases; Kelbie Oden - 6 for 11 with 4 runs and 5 stolen bases; and Callie Odom - 7 for 10 with 6 runs and 2 stolen bases.
