The annual Post Rotary Club Senior Banquet was held Tuesday at the Post Community Center. The event was for Post High School students who are eligible for a scholarship award.
Eleven Post High School seniors were present for the noon meal and program. The Class of 2012 PHS students present were Fabian Torres, Fermin Rivera, Dakota McDonald, Shirley Araiza, Madison Cash, Kari Dunn, Skylar Jones, Kambry Mason, Chelsea Nolen, Amanda Duran and Janelle Delgadillo. The eligible candidates had to attend two Rotary meetings over a month’s period during the school year and attend the banquet.
Those students will be considered for one of the two Rotary scholarships to be presented at the graduation ceremony on June 1, 2012 at the Antelope Arena. According to Rotarian Dave Tyler, the club's vocational chairman, both recipients will receive a $500 scholarship.
The event opened with Rotary President Marie Neff's welcomed, there was a prayer and then the saluting of the flags. Tyler then welcomed special guests PHS Superintendent Mike Comeaux and Student Counselor Tonya Dunn.
The keynote speaker was Judge Carter Schildknecht of the 106th Judicial District. The Judge offered words of encouragement and expressed the fact that you "can't control what happens around you, but you can control your own choices." She emphasized to the young women and men to make positives decisions because "all choices have consequences."
The hamburger steak meal was prepared by Mary Cade and Naomi Matsler.
