The Post ISD high school and middle school cross country teams did a great job Monday, October 22 at the District 3-AA cross country meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock, Texas .
The Post High School varsity girls team consisted of Bethany Curtis, Andi Soliz, Kelbie Oden, Haley Berry, Matti Smith, Mariah Morales, and Kaitlyn Walden. The boys team included Isaac Stern, Josie Delgadillo, Ethan Self, Tavish Soto and Taylor Soto.
The girls placed fourth as a team. Leading the Lady Lopes in eleventh place (one spot from qualifying for the regional meet) was Bethany Curtis with a time of 14:02. Rounding out the top three finishers for Post was Andi Soliz (14:38) and Kelbie Oden (14:59). Coach Shelli Crow said "these girls competed so hard and all ran their personal bests on that course which, as a coach, is all you can ask for. I know that we showed up at the district competition and gave our very best. I'm very proud of these athletes."
For the Antelopes, Isaac Stern lead the team with a second place finish, which qualifies him for the Regional Meet held November 3rd, at Mae Simmons, with a time of 18:52. Rounding out the team, which finished fourth as well, was Josiel Delgadillo with a time of 22:21. "I'm proud of all these athletes and the way they showed up and competed. It was great having a complete boys team and I look for great things to come from these runners," added Crow.
The JV girls also competed. They are Rebecca Perez, Cheyenne Gill, Sierra Isbell, and Jessi Isbell.
The Post Middle School teams also ran at the district cross country meet at Mae Simmons Park.
The girls had a total of 14 runners competing and were led by Caycee Holson with a time of 15:10.17 which earned her 10th place overall. She was followed closely by Brianna Casillas (13th) and Shailey Miller (14th). The girls earned a 4th place team finish.
Coach Richard Soliz said "these girls have worked hard this season; they were at practices at 6:30 AM and never complained. They were always in a silly, good mood which made coaching them a pleasure. The coaching staff is very proud of them and look forward to great things from these girls."
The boys team consisted of 5 runners and was led by Adrian Rogers with a time of 13:75.74 which gave him a 9th place finish. A.J. Escobedo won 12th place and Michael Phergson earned 13th place.
"Normally we only have 1 or 2 boys who are interested in running cross country but to have enough for a full team is awesome," commented Soliz. "The boys were also at practices at 6:30 AM and worked hard. It paid off with them taking home 3rd place medals at district. Hopefully their success will help grow the boys cross country program here in Post."
